Saturday April 20th is National Historic Monuments Day. National Ancient Monuments Day is all about raising awareness of the visible ancient monuments found throughout the Danish landscape. These include burial mounds, ramparts, ruins and many other ancient and modern monuments. By raising awareness of the existence of ancient monuments, we improve the chances of protecting them. You have to know that something exists in order to take care of it.
Ancient monuments are our common cultural heritage and not just something that skilled professionals care about. It is in everyone’s interest that ancient monuments are protected and preserved. Ancient monuments are traces of our shared history, and we want to help tell those stories. Knowledge about the past can help us understand our own present. Therefore, Museum Salling would like to invite you to the event ‘Glattrupvej – From main road to bike path’.
Glattrupvej – From main road to bike path
In connection with this year’s Fortidsmindedag, Museum Salling invites you on a walk along Glattrupvej in Skive on Saturday, April 20 at 14:00. Next to the cycle path that today runs from Ydunsvej to Glattrupvej in Skive, there are still the remains of the road that was once the main road to Skive town and the entrance to Salling.
Over the years, Museum Salling’s archaeologists have conducted a number of archaeological excavations in the area. On the walk you will learn more about the history the cultural landscape and archaeology can tell about life around Glattrup creek, which has always been affected by the damp landscape. The event is free and registration is not required. We meet at the end of Glattrupvej 38 at the gate.
