Team Leader for Archaeology

Museum Salling is looking for a team leader for archaeologist – who can help lead and develop our archaeological team.

Skive Museum, Fur Museum, Spøttrup Borg, Glyngøre Cultural Station and the archives are the strong legs that together make up Museum Salling. The museum is broadly based within the four subject areas: Archaeology, Art, Cultural History and Natural History. We are looking for a new team leader for Team Archaeology.

Team structure and cross-functional collaboration

Since 2021, we have established a team structure, and an important task for the team leader is to help develop communication and collaboration across the teams. We want to become even better at cross-team sparring and task solving, so that we can utilize all our resources and skills and together develop the overall museum offering. You will therefore sit on our interdisciplinary coordination committee together with the other team leaders for communication, archives/preservation, research and operations/administration. We meet every 14 days to ensure collaboration.

Focus

The concept of landscape is part of a cross-cutting focus for the entire museum and all the museum’s professional areas of responsibility. Based in Spøttrup, the museum has a special cultural-historical focus on medieval/renaissance castles and 16th-century life and society. At Fur Museum, the overall focus is on the designation of the Moler Landscapes as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As of January 1, 2025, Skive Museum will become Skive Art Museum. In Glyngøre and in the museum’s archives, the cultural history of recent times will be exhibited and communicated.

Tasks

Team Archaeology’s tasks consist of taking care of Chapter 8 of the Museum Act within prehistoric cultural heritage in Skive Municipality. We want to further develop our collaboration with the area’s developers and the municipality’s case officers. Team Archaeology consists of 3-4 permanent employees and a number of project employees depending on the level of activity. We would also like to continue our collaboration with the archaeology association, detectorists and volunteers. It is our fundamental belief that we succeed best as a team. An important task for you as team leader will be to set a clear direction for the team in dialog with the employees and the museum director.

As team leader of the archaeological team, you will, together with the museum director, be responsible for the team’s development, tasks and well-being. In everyday life, we need you for professional sparring and development, and especially to maintain an overview and balance resources and tasks. An important tool for you will be financial and hourly budgets when allocating time for operational tasks, communication and research. Agreements and deadlines must be followed up on so that we reach our goals on time. The team and Museum Salling have skilled employees for the daily operational tasks, so if you would rather be out in the field than doing the administrative part – then you are also welcome to apply.

In addition, we have other development areas and tasks that we want you to contribute to

  • We want to bring the museum’s expertise and knowledge into play in relation to municipal strategies and events. Museum Salling must be a central player that contributes to the development of the region and collaborates with citizens, the municipality and other cultural actors. Collaborations that can spread like ripples to the rest of the cultural and business community.
  • We will develop an innovative approach to the development of archaeology and its collections throughout Skive Municipality.
  • In 2025, we will move the archaeology team’s workplaces to the museum’s head office in Rønbjerg. You will therefore be part of the process of setting up workshops and finds management. In 2018, the museum got a new warehouse at the same location, and our collection and collection organization is of high quality.
  • We want to increase our collaboration with other cultural history museums, for example in archaeology.
  • We would like to apply for external funding from foundations to provide better opportunities for development and research in the field of archaeology.

The team leader we want

We expect you to be a trained archaeologist, and you may bring museum knowledge, excavation and relevant management experience to the position. We would like to see that you have management training, such as a diploma in management, or that you are interested in taking a management course. It would also be an advantage if you have experience with grant applications and digital resources as well as financial understanding.

We also hope that you can recognize yourself in the following competencies

  • You are structured and can balance ideas, professionalism, financial and human resources.
  • You are innovative and solution-oriented.
  • You are good at human relations and cooperative.
  • Your management style is facilitative, appreciative and delegating. This means that you lead on the basis of agreements and trust that employees will solve tasks themselves and follow them through. But you follow up and help prioritize so that we reach the goals we set ourselves.
  • You easily find and communicate the balance between professional idealism and everyday realities
