Archaeology

People have lived in Salling, Nordfjends and Fur for at least 12,000 years. The area has many well-preserved ancient monuments – not least around 750 burial mounds in rows or groups are a distinctive landscape feature in Skive Municipality, reminding us of the distant past. The area was once home to many more burial mounds, but today they are plowed over and hidden under the soil.

The museum works to collect and preserve information about past ways of life – and to create new knowledge about ancient and medieval times.
