Christmas calendar with Museum Salling 2025
Join us for an exciting advent calendar experience. Behind the calendar doors is a unique mix of familiar, forgotten, old and new Christmas traditions. Our advent calendar takes you on an exciting journey through time, exploring traditions from different time periods, walks of life and countries. Some Christmas traditions can be traced back to the Middle Ages, while others have links to the Christian church – or maybe they’re even based on superstitions that were prevalent in the 18th and 19th centuries. This year (2025), our Christmas calendar opening will take place at Spøttrup Borg and Skive Byarkiv. We open the gate of the day, play a cozy Christmas game and learn about the historic Christmas tree. First come, first served principle applies.

Bluelab
BlueLab is located at the Learning Embassy in Skive. We were lucky enough to take over a nice set-up from Kystcenteret in Thyborøn. Classes from kindergarten to higher education will be able to learn about water from above, outside and especially from below. We investigate both cloudbursts and coastal protection, as well as working with the problems caused by rising groundwater levels. At Skive Karup Å with a trail connection to Koholm Å and Flynder Sø, it is obvious to have experiments with running water and landscapes formed during the last ice age.
Grade level: All grades and institutions
Subjects: Landscape understanding, nature and technology, geography
Duration: 1 – 2 hours by appointment
Location: Learning Embassy, Elværket in Skive

Flyndersø
Flyndersø has one of Denmark’s finest examples of landscape formation and dead ice holes. We are happy to conduct small experiments that show in a fun way how a dead ice hole is created and why the sand remains in thick layers. Flyndersø is nature park material, which is why, together with Skive Municipality’s Environment and Technology, we offer our schools the opportunity to become ambassadors for not only the area’s landscape, but especially biodiversity as seen in examples of local flora and fauna pointing towards specific world goals.
Grade level: All grades and institutions
Subjects: Landscape understanding, nature and technology, geography, biology
Duration: 2 hours
Location: Flyndersø

On safari for amber, trash and dark life
Winter is the peak season for amber hunting. Learn about amber, feel it, see it and practice finding it. Our course is based on beach safaris with UV lights that really only function properly in the dark. Of course, the equipment can also be used in other locations and landscape types for other minerals and waste. The safaris activate several instincts and provide security as darkness becomes an ally in the activities. A good “excuse” to get out together and wander in the dark and an opportunity for a new type of community with the class. You will be given Marine Environmental Guardian bags to collect the rubbish washed up from the fjord and garden. You can also borrow a class set so you can continue the hunt on your own, e.g. on a school camp evening trip. Our booklet “Amber and Flint” can be downloaded here.
Grade level: All grades and institutions
Subjects: Natural history, nature and technology, geography, biology
Duration: 2 hours plus lending of material
Location: By appointment at a suitable beach along Sallings, winter season early morning and evening
